Aidan Kelly

1. What is your background?
I am currently on a 9 month Internship in Heat Merchants Group Athlone. I'm a qualified IT technician. My profession is more on Hardware than software. I've build my own PC with the latest technology such as an SSD hard drive, blu ray disc drive and over 1000 GB of free space.

2. Why did you join CoderDojo?
I joined Coderdojo back in 2012. In my profession there is no coding at all, its all hands on work. I wanted to learn the basic of coding so that's why I joined. I learned the basics on Codecademy and I used my experience to mentor others. I have designed my own site and learned a lot from it.

3. What are you most passionate about?
I am most passionate about bringing the best out of young people and seeing how much they can accomplish with a little encouragement. I am also passionate about new technology and how we can implement it on every day life e.g. using the Raspberry Pi and streaming movies using XBMC media centre.

1. What is your background?
I am a current student in AIT, studying Business Computing which helps as I cover a list of subjects which include:

  • Computer Architecture & Web Development,
  • Programming Concepts,
  • and App Development.
2. Why did you join CoderDojo?
At first my mum heard about it from a friend and told me about it and asked whether id like to join but seeing as I knew nobody there I was hesitant. Then my friend told me he was joining and asked if I would I like to come with him. I said yes and I've been here ever since.

3. What are you most passionate about?
One of my greatest passions is helping others. As I was growing up and up to now my mum constantly reminds me of how I always seem to want to help others and how I'm caring. Joining Coderdojo was just another step ito show how much I can help others. I love to watch, talk, and listen about emerging technologies and the value they provide towards improving our lives. It just amazes me how we can use these technologies in our lives in many ways combining them efficiently. I always try to think of the ways these technologies can aid each other to create a better way to use them.

1. What is your background?
I studied Electronic Engineering in UCD in the early 90s and followed that with a Masters in Electronic Systems from DCU. I've been working full-time as a programmer / developer and manager since 1994 in Computer Vision, Broadcast Graphics and Interactive Television. I am currently working on Mobile Apps for a startup. I've written commercial code in languages such as BASIC, C, C++, ObjectiveC, C#, Java, PHP, SQL, Basic, Ruby and JavaScript. I've also dabbled in FORTRAN, Pascal and Prolog and am currently learning Python.

2. Why did you join CoderDojo?
Initially because my daughter wanted to go but over the last year or so, I've become interested in participating in the learning environment as it's been so long since I've been in a position to share my knowledge and experience. I think that CodeDojo is an excellent way to show people as much or as little as they want to know about using computer programming as a means to solve problems.

3. What are you most passionate about?
I am one of those people blessed with the kind of job that they would do for free anyway and am constantly amazed that people will pay me to do it. Outside of that, my passions tend to come and go but my family is always a constant. Recently I have again been bitten by the walking bug that briefly infected me during my college years. I manage to get a hike in three or four times a week mostly in the forest behind my home. For this year, I set myself a challenge to blog about this at cartrongarrow.com. I have a great appreciation for the therapeutic value of walking as a means towards clearing the head.
